Refraction Error
a solo show of original prints
Refraction as in
Being changed by the things you touch,
Although not believing, yet, that you can change what you touch
Illogical game boards, sites of tension and skewed architectures
Sci-fi leanings and watery daydream places,
Affirmations and evidence of life through the mark of the hand
Knowledge, once removed; knowing
Dead end hallways
Things pushed down deeply and things gone hollow. And the feeling of falling.
An exercise in humility.
Refraction error - if it was real - might be
Portals, without a threshold
between what I know and what I can’t accept not knowing,
and all the rest I can't see.
Distortions through a death grip
instead of through a flowing, like glass.
——————-
To honor the search,
The shimmer of color; the time between hues, rising -
The opposite of refraction error.
On process, and whys: a video essay
During the closing reception for “Refraction Error”, this video played in an adjoining studio just off the room with my prints, gently mumbling in the background of the reception.
A peek at my printmaking process from drawing to printing, along with some thoughts on the way we bridge association and make meaning, in the context of my art practice.
I talk repetition, complications of life which make art that richer, and following your intuition in the studio.
